Sweet Grape Body Scrub

9 May, 2014 by Shundara@Savynaturalista

Sweet Grape Body Scrub      Spring is the time to get rid of clutter, get ready for graduations, proms and lots of birthdays. For some odd reason I know a lot of spring babies and they love lots of color. Spring is also a time to add color to your wardrobe and definitely the décor in your home, but it’s also a time to add some color to the gifts that you’re going to give out this year. With all the celebrations coming up you’re going to need some gifts to give away without breaking the bank.

Sweet Grape Body Scrub      Over the next few weeks we are going to be making a few festive beauty DIY’s that are all natural and only require a few ingredients. Today we are starting with a simple sweet grape body scrub. When making this scrub please only use 1-2 tsps. of drink mix, if you use the whole packet you will get a funky grey color and not a lovely purple color. I would suggest mixing .5 tsp. of mix to sugar and oil; if the color is not the purple you like add .5 tsp. more until you get your desired purple.  Once you use this body scrub in the shower, you will know why I call it sweet grape. It smells so good you will want to eat it, but remember it’s for your skin.

Sweet Grape Body Scrub

Sweet Grape Body Scrub Recipe:
3 cups sugar
1-2 tsps. grape drink mix (I used kool aid)
2.5 cups oil (I used coconut)
Recipe Direction: In a medium bowl stir sugar and  grape drink mix until combined (no more then 1 tsp. to start). Place oil into the medium bowl and mix until the oil has been incorporated into the sugar mixture. Once incorporated store in an air tight container.

Important Tip: If you have problems getting the Kool-Aid to change the sugar to bright purple. Add a small amount of violet icing color to the sugar and oil. Once you have the purple add the Kool-Aid!

I didn’t know you could use sugar scrub in the shower! Really dumb question but wouldn’t that hurt your skin? I just use it on my feet.

It’s a body scrub so yes you can use it it all over the body, however I would not recommend on the face.

Do you need to microwave the oil in this recipe like you do for the Mint Sugar Scrub?

I don’t think I have made a mint scrub yet, but if you’re using coconut oil you don’t need to microwave it. Once you add coconut oil to the sugar it will melt right into it unless you’re in a region where temps are below 50 degrees.

Can you use sea salt instead of sugar?

I just mixed up 3 different batches of the grape scrub and each time the color was more hideous. I tried different amounts of the kool aid and even added some food coloring to one mix. I am so disappointed that this didn’t turn out! My colors weren’t even close to your beautiful shade of “grape”! I’m willing to try it one more time if you have any suggestions I might try.

Oh gosh I had the same problem in the beginning, and then I spent an hour brain storming and trying to work the Kool-Aid in! It finally turned this beautiful color (after working it in)!!! I know most of us don’t have that kind of time, so if you have problems getting the Kool-Aid to change the sugar to the bright purple. Add a small amount of violet icing color to the sugar and oil. Once you have the purple add the Kool-Aid! 🙂

I have a quick question. Will the purple dye in the koolaid discolor the skin? I have very white skin and whenever I get any koolaid on my fingers, I turn that color. Just curious. I am so loving this recipe and can’t wait to try it out. Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂

The lighter your skin is it’s possible for the scrub to stain (the skin). That’s why I suggest using a small amount of color and Kool-Aid. I would suggest testing the scrub as your making it to see if it stains your skin. 🙂

Do you use the actual packet of Kool-aid or do you use the pre-mixed with sugar already powder mix? There isn’t enough powder in a packet for a 1/2 teaspoon…..

your right it’s more like 1 tsp in a packet, but you can use less or more its up to you.. The more you add the darker the color you get but the smell is amazing.

So it is the acutal packet of Kool-Aid that you use?? And not the pre-mixed with sugar stuff? The packet doesn’t have much in it so I wanted to be sure!! Thank you!! I am so excited to make this!!

I used food coloring in mine. My kids are older & I don’t have kool-aid in the house. Also I added a few drops of lavender to really give it that authentic aroma in the shower. Works great. Thanks for recipe

I used food coloring instead of kool-aid and added lavender essential oil. Smells great first thing in the morning when showering. Thanks
